Abstract
Those mercaptans in which the -SH group is directly attached to a carbon atom which is itself directly linked to nitrogen and sulphur are converted to disulphides by treating with persulphuric acid or a water-soluble persulphate. In examples 2-mercaptobenzthiazole, diethyldithiocarbamic acid diethylamine salt and sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate are converted by means of aqueous ammonium persulphate to the corresponding disulphides. The invention is particularly directed to the manufacture of the disulphides used as rubber vulcanization accelerators. The Provisional Specification relates to the treatment of mercapto compounds generally.
