Abstract

395,547. Cleaning pipes. STEVENS, L., 54, Rue de la Montagne, Brussels.- (Assignee of Vankerkhoven, A. ; 44, Rue Emile Carpentier, Curegham, Brussels.) Oct. 10, 1932, No. 28188. Convention date, June 17, 1932. [Class 99 (ii).] The invention comprises semi-automatic hydraulic apparatus for returning to a cask the liquor in the delivery pipe and replacing the liquid by water for the purpose of cleansing the pipe. A glass cylinder A in which is mounted an elastic piston G is secured between an upper cheek-plate B with an extension B<2>, B<3> for connection to the liquor delivery nozzle R and a lower plate C formed with channels C<2>, C<3>, C<4> co-operating with passages in a valve D and with tubes M, N connected to passages B<4>, B6 in the upper plate B. The valve D has six channels arranged in two separate groups D<1>, D<3>, D<5> ; D<2>, D<4>, D<6>, Fig. 3, with interconnection between the channels of a group. With the piston in the position shown in Fig. 4, the valve is rotated anti-clockwise by the handle D<7>, and water from a source of pressure passes through C<1>, D2, D<6>, C2 forcing the piston upwards. The water expelled passes through B<6>, N to the channel C<4> and through the passages D<3>, D5 to the channel C<3> and through the vertical tube M to the passage B<4> and delivery nozzle R forcing the liquor from the delivery pipe into the cask and replacing it by water. When the piston reaches the top of the cylinder, and more water is required in the delivery pipe, the valve D is rotated clockwise. Water under pressure now passes through the channels D<4>, D<6> to the tube N and after passing through the channel B<6> forces the piston downwardly. Water below the piston is expelled through C<2> and passages D<5>, D<1> to the tube M and through the delivery nozzle R to the delivery pipe. The operator effects a number of alternations of the piston in accordance with the capacity of the delivery pipe of the cask to which the apparatus is attached-a graduated scale being attached to the apparatus to serve as a guide for this purpose.
