Abstract
A plastering-composition comprises an hydraulic cement such as Portland cement and a larger quantity of finely comminuted pumice which is graded so that none of the particles exceeds one-sixteenth of an inch in size, and an appreciable portion passes a 150 mesh sieve but some is retained thereby, the condition of the pumice being such that in a substantial portion thereof the characteristic vesicular structure is retained. The p pumice may be replaced by other material having a similar vesicular structure and chemical composition such as certain kinds of blast furnace slag. In an example, the whole of the pumice passes a 20 mesh sieve, from 75 to 80 per cent passes a 150 mesh sieve and not more than 5 per cent passes a 200 mesh sieve. A suitable composition comprises one part of Portland cement, four to twenty parts of pumice and optionally one to two parts of hydrated lime. Colouring matter and micaceous sand may be added, and also a small proportion of calcium chloride. The Provisional Specification also states that gypsum may be used as the binding material.
