Abstract

A process for desizing and bleaching textiles consists in treating the textiles under pressure in one and the same vessel with an enzyme bath and the usual bleaching baths, said baths being successively circulated through the material to be treated. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a vessel 2 provided <PICT:0395306/IV/1> <PICT:0395306/IV/2> with heating means, a vessel 1 for treating the fibrous material with the liquids, and an expansion vessel 3 freely communicating with the atmosphere and connected with the treating vessel by a conduit provided with a reducing valve 8, a pump 5 being arranged in the circuit to circulate the liquid from the heating vessel through the treating vessel and expansion vessel, back to the heating vessel. The treating vessel may be provided with a perforated annular zone 12 between the top and bottom thereof, said zone being externally surrounded by an annular channel 13 connected with the discharge (or supply) conduit, so that the liquid may be supplied (or discharged) simultaneously to (or from) the top and bottom of the vessel. In this construction sieve bottoms are arranged at the top and bottom of the vessel, the upper sieve 18 being fastened to the cover of the vessel. The walls of the apparatus may be manufactured from or coated with an alloy containing iron, chromium, nickel, carbon, and not less than 2 per cent of molybdenum, for example, an iron alloy containing 18 per cent chromium, 8 per cent nickel, 0,15 per cent carbon, and 34 per cent molybdenum.ALSO:Walls of apparatus for the treatment of textiles with liquids for desizing and bleaching are manufactured or lined with an alloy containing iron, chromium, nickel, carbon, and not less than 2 per cent of molybdenum, for example, an iron alloy containing 18 per cent chromium, 8 per cent nickel, 0,15 per cent carbon, and 34 per cent molybdenum.
