Abstract

394,983. Cow-milkers. HOWSE, C. G Lower Whitley Farm, Farmoor, Botley, Oxfordshire. Jan. 5, 1932, No. 299. [Class 84.] In a double-chamber teat cup, the outer rigid wall 14 is provided with opposed openings or slots 17 covered by a resilient sealing sleeve or shroud 18. The slots 17 may incline inwardly towards the upper end of the teat cup, and the wall of the shroud 18 may taper in thickness towards the upper end. The shroud 18 may be integral with the liner 10 and its flange 11. When suction is applied to the annular chamber 14a, the atmospheric pressure causes the parts of the shroud which register with the openings 17 to move inwards and compress the liner, the inclined slots and the tapering shroud causing the upper part of the shroud to engage the liner initially and with greater pressure, at the uppermost part thereof, the pressure in lessening degree then extending downward. The liner may be connected to a source of constant suction or to a pulsating air supply. In the latter case, a non-return valve, to prevent the back flow of milk, is incorporated in the milk pipe 12.
