Description

Dec. 26, 1950 J. R. RHINEHART 2,535,159
NIPPLE ATTACHMENT FOR FEED FAILS Filed Sept. 16, 1948 Patented Dec. 26, 1950.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE NIPPLE ATTACHMENT FQE FEED FAILS John R. Rhinehart, Fort Wayne, Incl. Applicationiieptember 16, 1948, Serial No. 49,575
This invention relates to improvements in an attachment for securing a nipple to a pail from which liquid is supplied through the nipple to suckling animals.
An object of the present invention is to provide a detachable fixture for a pail provided with an outflow portal located adjacent :the bottom of the pail to insure substantially complete withdrawal of the food from the pail by suction through the nipple.
Another object of the invention is .to construct an attachment for securing a nipple to a pail, having but few and easily separable parts, whereby to facilitate removal and replacements thereof, thus to promote sanitation.
Other objects and advantages of the invention appear in the following description.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary side elevational view of i a nipple, a pail and a fixture in which the invention is incorporated;
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the inner end of the valvular body forming part of the fixture; Fig. 3 is an outer end elevationalview of the valvular body and a valve arranged therein; and Fig. 4 is an end elevational viewof a lock-ring for the valvular body. v
The illustrative embodiment of the invention consists of a fixture including a valvular body 5 having therein a valve chamber 6 in which is disposed a ball valve confined thereinby a crosspin 8, the inner end of a valvular body having a hollow enlargement 9 extending downwardly to provide an outflow portal 9' thathas communithreaded lock-ring I5 having an internal flange It at its outer end is provided by which the nipple is secured upon the sleeve and clamped against the shoulder.
The body 5 is positioned in connection with a pail N that has an apertured outwardly extending embossment 18 through which the threaded shoulder l2 loosely extends, there being a gasket I 9 encompassing the shoulder and disposed against the inner wall of the.,.,embossment by which is provided a seal between the body and the pail.
' 2 Claims. (Cl. 119--'Z'1) The construction of the various parts of the attachment as set forth permits of assembling thereof in connection with the pail, and subsequent removal thereof for cleansing purposes without resort to extraordinary effort.
Variations from the particular construction above disclosed may be resorted to by the exercise of skill in the art, without departure from the spirit or scope of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. An attachment for securing a nipple to a feed pail, said attachment consisting of a chambered body having an outflow check-valve therein, said body being removably positioned within a feed pail and having a threaded shoulder extending outwardly through an apertured embossment therein, and provided on its inner end with an enlargement having a portal between the bottom of said pail and the outflow opening in said body, and a lock ring engaging said shoulder for securing a nipple on said body and having clamping engagement against said embossment.
2. An attachment for securing a nipple to a feed pail, said attachment having an outflow check valve member removably secured to the pail from the interior thereof and provided with a threaded shoulder that extends through an apertured embossment in said pail, the inner end of said member having an enlargement providing a portal extending between the bottom of said pail and the outflow opening of said body, and a lock ring threaded on said shoulder adapted to secure a nipple on said body and clamp said body against said embossment.
JOHN R. RHINEHART.
