Convention date, Nov. 21, 1931. [Class 56.] In an apparatus for tempering sheet glass, the sheets f are heated by arranging them in a high frequency electrostatic field formed between electrodes a, and are then cooled by fluid jets issuing from perforations e in the faces of the electrodes. The edges of the sheet engage resiliently mounted supporting clamps g. The circuit is made automatically when the electrodes contact with the sheet and when the electrodes are withdrawn the circuit is broken and the cooling fluid is supplied automatically. The electrode faces may be covered with fused silica.
