Abstract

<PICT:0392717/III/1> An evaporator forming part of a cement &c. kiln comprises tubes 29 opening at their upper ends into a header 33 connected to a slurry supply, and each containing a piston 36 which is depressed at intervals by a cam 38 to allow slurry to flow through the openings 35 and to trickle down the chains 41. Transverse chains scrape the dried slurry from the chains 41 as the kiln is rocked about an horizontal axis. Increase in the length of the rods 37 due to rise in temperature tends to increase the flow of slurry.
