Abstract

392,322. Thermal switches. LUDWIG, L., 59, Hall Street, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. March 11, 1932, No. 7275. [Class 38 (v).] A thermally - operated electric current interrupter which may be inserted either in a screw or a bayonet-type lamp socket, and between the lamp and socket contacts, comprises a recessed insulating body 10 accommodating a bimetallic strip 17 retained in position by a metal cover 13 forming one of the external contacts of the interrupter, which is adapted, when heated, to engage a fixed contact 21 connected with external contacts 23, 32. The heating means comprises a winding 18 surrounding the strip 17 and connected between the strip and contact 21. When inserted in a. screw socket, the central lamp and socket contacts co-operate with the contact 23 and cover 13 respectively. When inserted in a bayonet socket, one of the socket contacts 26, Fig. 3, passes through the interrupter and engages directly with a lamp contact, whilst the other socket 27 engages spring tongues 30 pressed in the cover, and the contact 32 engages the other contact of the lamp.
