391,463. Railway track brakes. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SAXBY SIGNAL CO., Ltd., 82, York Road, King's Cross, London.-(Assignees of Bone, H. L. ; 1025, Macon Avenue, Pittsburg, U.S.A.) Oct. 28, 1931, No. 29911. Convention date, Feb.19. [Class 103 (i).] Railway track brake bars are operated by a fluid-pressure motor supported by pivoted levers to give simultaneous application with equal pressure on the two sides of the wheels. Each brake bar is operated by a number of these units. The brake bars may be continuous or articulated. The centre of gravity of the levers and brake bars is arranged so that the brake is released by gravity. The brake bars comprise shoes 7 carried by bearers 6 which are rail sections of standard length supported on a number of pairs of levers 8, 9 mounted on pivots 10 and operated by fluidpressure cylinders 12. The cylinder 12 is pivotally connected to the lever 9 and the piston 13 is pivotally and adjustably connected to the lever 8. A centreing device, for the brake bars, one of which is associated with each of the four end operating units, comprises a tube 25 supported in a vertical position by an arm 44 on a rail support 3. A rod 34, passing through the tube, carries a fixed and an adjustable abutment against which bear plates 30 containing a spring 42. The plates 30 are adapted to abut against the end plates of the tube 25. The rod 34 carries an adjustable stop 43 adapted to engage a lug 8b on the lever 8 and a stop 38 having a rectangular opening into which projects with considerable clearance a' pin 40 attached to the lever 9.
