Abstract

Apparatus for dehydrating ethyl alcohol by treatment with an alcoholic solution of a fusible dehydrating agent, e.g. as described in Specification 368,793, comprises a reaction column A from which the water-laden dehydrating agent, e.g. potassium acetate, is <PICT:0391213/III/1> removed to a column B where residual alcohol is removed and is then pumped to a container C from which it is fed at a rate regulated by valves D to the dehydrating and fusing pan E. The anhydrous fused salt is mixed with alcohol from the condenser K in a pan H, the mixture being stirred constantly by a stirrer N, and is finally returned to the top of the column A through a pipe L. A valve G may be provided to regulate further the flow of the dehydrating agent.
