ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc., 195, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees Pfannenstiehl, H. ; 80, Boulevard West, Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Oct. 19, 1931, No. 29028. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1930. [Class 40 (ii).] Relates to a guide mechanism for an optical sound film in sound-picture apparatus, wherein the film is positioned with.respect to the light beam by being passed over a pair of freely rotatable guide rollers one or both of which are obliquely disposed with respect to the film. As shown applied to a sound reproducer, the film 11 is guided at the sound head by rollers 1, 2 which are mounted obliquely with respect to the film and have bevelled edges set at the required angle to engage the film edges. The rollers 1, 2 have shafts 3, 4 respectively, which are journalled to rotate freely in bearings 5, 6. The reproducing light beam is brought to a focus near the film 11 after which it diverges and is directed upon a photo-electric cell 10. By setting the guide roller 2 obliquely, interference with the light beam is avoided. The film is drawn in a curved path over the rollers 1, 2 by a driving sprocket 12, Fig. 2, and the required tension is imparted to the film by drag rollers 15, 17. The roller 17 is mounted on one arm of a bell-crank lever 16, the other arm of which engages a spring 18 which urges the roller 17 against the film 11.
