Abstract

420,223. Sound-film feeding-devices. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and LUCAS, G. S. C., 75, Eastlands Road, Rugby. Feb. 28, 1933, No. 6136. [Class 40 (ii)] In sound-film recording or reproducing apparatus, the film 2 is maintained in engagement with a drum 1 by two idler pulleys 3, 4 whose axes are fixed and parallel, the drum being resiliently pressed towards the two idler pulleys. The drum 1 may be mounted on an inner drum 5 which is pivoted at 8 to aspring pressed rod 7. It is stated that by a suitable choice of the coefficients of friction between the drums 1, 5 and between the film and the drum 1, the relation between the tensions in the film on the approaching and leaving side of the drum 1 is rendered substantially independent of variations in the pressure on the rod 7. A numerical example is furnished. A flywheel 9 may be mounted on the spindle of either or both of the idler pulleys.
