Abstract

Optical apparatus.-Relates to optical soundreproducing apparatus in which a film bearing a photographic sound-record is passed between a source of light and a. light-sensitive cell. According to the invention, the film f passes over a roller comprising two end parts a, b having pins thereon for engaging the film, which parts are connected by a part p of glass or the like, the arrangement being such that light can pass through the film and through the part p to a light-sensitive cell e. The glass tube p is in contact with the film in the construction shown in Fig. 1, and is spaced apart from it in the modification shown in Fig. 2. Instead of locating a photo-electric cell within the roller, as shown, the source of light may be placed within and the cell outside the roller. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the following subject-matter which does not appear in the Specification as accepted. The film may engage with a roller made in two portions driven synchronously and having a gap between them, so that the light source or the cell can be placed inside the roller. Alternatively, where the sound record is made on an edge of the film outside a row of sprocket holes, that edge may extend beyond the roller so that a beam of light can be passed through it to a light-sensitive cell arranged behind it. The rollers may be made of interchangeable parts secured together for example by screwing. Fig. 1 (Cancelled) shows an arrangement in which a record film f is moved by a roller consisting of two separated parts a, b which are driven at the same speed by gearing g - - k. Light transmitted through the film passes through the gap to a cell fixed within the roller. In Fig. 2, (Cancelled), is shown a two-part roller m, n, the parts being secured together by a pin o. The part of the film bearing the sound-record in this case overhangs the part n.
