Abstract

390,544. Winding yarn into cops during the process of spinning. STEW ART, K., Bhatpara, Bengal, India. Oct. 13, 1931, No. 28436. [Class 120 (ii).] In a machine wherein the yarn is spun and simultaneously wound into cops thereby eliminating the usual winding operations subsequent to spinning, the material passes from drawing rollers over a hook 17 on a driven cone 1, through a traveller 18 on a reciprocating ring 19 to a spindle 10 whereon it is initially wound. The cone 1 forces the cop downwards, a dummy cop 6, upon which the cop is built, being retarded by a brake 21 which may be in the form of fingers or may be a centrifugal brake. When the spindle 10 is withdrawn from the cone the cop is built on a small centre 11 which may rotate in the cone. The cone is gapped to facilitate piecing. The ring is reciprocated by an arm 20 of a rocking lever 34, and may be provided with a parallel motion. When the cop is fully wound the flange of the dummy cop engages a rod 22 and releases a stop-motion link 23, which is thereupon engaged by a stop 25 on an arm 26 of the rocking lever 34 so that a toggle 28 is pushed beyond its vertical centre, a rod 29 being thereby raised to separate the delivery rollers, to check the roving, and to remove a pin 33 from the boss of the lever 34 to stop the reciprocation of the ring, the lever 23 simultaneously applying a brake 37 to the driving-wharl 38 of the cone. Similar operation is effected on breakage by a detector lever 40 which permits a pawl 42 on the arm 26 to fall and engage a notch 44. The housing of the bearing of the dummy spindle is guided by rods 8 which are shaped so that when the fully wound cop is lowered and withdrawn from the cone it is inclined forwardly and upon further withdrawal of the spindle falls into a receptacle. Sliding cutters 45 are provided to sever the thread.
