[Class 83 (iii).] Reamers to be sharpened are rotatably clamped in a device which is provided with a file support comprising an eccentrically mounted cylinder adjustable with the aid of a gauge so that the support can be brought into the same plane as the part of the reamer to be sharpened. The reamer is held between mandrels 4, 5 provided with clamping screws 6a, 6b, the mandrel 5 having a polygonal point to prevent relative rotation of mandrel and reamer. An adjustable and resilient abutment 11 engages the blade of the reamer to be sharpened. The file comprises two emery stones 19, 20 of different degrees of fineness held in a frame 21 secured to an elliptical support 24 by a clamping screw 26 which may be slacked to bring the operative surfaces of the support and emery stone into the same plane to compensate for wear. An eccentrically mounted cylinder 13 is adjusted by a gauge co-operating with a plane surface on the device to bring the upper surface of the cylinder into the plane of the reamer blade to be sharpened. In a modification, a carriage 28 engages the cylinder 13 and a rod 13a by rollers 29. The carriage is in two parts pivoted together and urged together by springs 32, to allow of the adjust- .ment of the cylinder 13. The carriage is provided with forks 36, 37 for the file and is reciprocated along the length of the reamer. The mandrel 5 is urged inwardly by a spring 34 which also tends to maintain the mandrel in one radial position, the screw 6b being slackened during the sharpening.
