Abstract
390,439. Steam traps. HOLDEN & BROOKE, Ltd. and McNAIR, D. G., Sirius Works, West Gorton, Manchester. Oct. 11, 1932, No. 28323. [Class 64 (ii).] In a steam trap in which a bucket 2 fills with water and sinks thereby directly opening a discharge valve 1 moving with the bucket and directly connected to a balance piston 5, this piston uncovers at each discharge a passage 10, 11 to atmosphere to liberate accumulated air. Water is discharged through the valve 1 to an outlet 12 past a fluted or spiral rod 3, which has an annularly grooved piston 5 at its upper end covering outlet passages 10, 11 communicating, when the piston falls, with the interior of the trap by passages 8, 9. As the piston top is exposed to steam pressure, the weight of the bucket and float does not have to overcome the difference between working and atmospheric pressure.
