389,670. Direct-call systems. HYPHER, N. C., Pinwell, Mackenzie Street, Slough. April 29, 1932, No. 12331. [Class 40 (iv).] A telephone set arranged near the door of a house comprises a loud-speaker 5. and sensitive microphone 7 and an illuminated sign 8 controlled by a distant key 10 associated with a hand set 3, 6 for the resident, a common battery being employed for the .speech circuits and the sign. The impedance-matching transformer 4 may be replaced by a magneto-microphonic or thermionic amplifier.. The sets are preferably associated with the line by means of plug-andsockets of the kind used for thermionic valves, sockets being provided in a number of rooms. The lamp is shunted by a condenser to avoid the effects of inductive kick. In a preferred construction, the loud-speaker 15, 21, microphone 16, and sign 17 are mounted on a frame comprising a disc 19, annulus 18, and distance rods 20, the microphone and sign projecting through holes in the horn, and the whole is contained in a metal casing with an open front having a gauze or mesh cover.
