Abstract
389,167. Propelling and steering by water-jets, RANK, F., BECKER, A., 20, Michelsberg, and AMMON, T., 18, Michelsberg, Hersbruck, Germany. Oct. 20, 1931, No. 29105. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1930. [Class 114.] In installations for propelling and steering ships by water-jets, centrifugal pumps 3, 4, the suction pipes 1, 2 of which extend to opposite sides of the bows, discharge into nitches 5, 6 in the ship's sides, which are corrugated as shown. At the stem the centrifugal pumps 17, 18, with suction pipes 15, 16, discharge on either side of a central jet supplied by the pump 12, this arrangement increasing the eddy action at the stern. For steering purposes one or more of the pumps may be stopped or reversed and hinged plates 21, 22 are provided at the sides. The pumps are coupled with aligned electromotors.
