Abstract
389,085. Paper-folding machines. CRABTREE & SONS, Ltd., R. W., Water Lane, and PHYTHIAN, T. E., 25, Heading- ley Mount, Headingley, both in Leeds. Sept. 5, 1931, No. 25016. [Class 100 (ii).] In sheet - folding apparatus for printing. presses in which a cylinder a carrying tucking - blades and cutting - abutments is provided, the circumferential position at which each blade operates relatively to the cutting position is varied automatically in accordance with the speed of the cylinder. The blades are mounted on arms b rotatably mounted on the shaft of the cylinder. Levers g carrying balance weights i and pivoted to the cylinder at j are connected to the arms b by links h. Rods f also pivoted at j are slidably mounted in swivel-poppets e on the arms b and carry compression springs l. As the cylinder speed increases, the weights i under the action of centrifugal forces move the arms b against the pressure of the springs l, such movement varying with the speed and serving to ensure that the blades operate at the middle of the sheets. The pressure of the springs l may be adjusted by means of nuts on the rods f. In a modification each balanceweight is carried at the pivotal point of two links, one of which is pivoted to the cylinder and the other one to one of the arms b.
