388,755. Valve circuits for wireless reception. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London, and GILL, E. W. B., Merton College, Oxford. Aug. 29, 1931, No. 24359. [Class 40 (v).] An ultra - short wave simple reaction receiver comprises a thermionic valve 1 with its plate 2 connected to its grid 6 by a pair of series inductances 3, 5 separated by a capacity 4 and coupled to, or constituting, a high-frequency pick-up circuit, and reaction is controlled by varying the emission from the cathode 7 up to a point prior to that at which the valve oscillates. The inductances consist of telescopic rods slid into one another to vary the inductive value. A positive potential is applied to the grid 6 by a battery 8 with its negative terminal connected to the cathode, telephones 9 or other output apparatus is connected between the anode side of the variable condenser 4 and the cathode, and the temperature of the cathode is adjusted by rheostat 10. When an aerial external to ,the circuit is used, the aerial is coupled at a potential node on the inductances 3, 5. Reception may be effected at a harmonic of the received wave.
