Abstract
388,679. Napping fabrics. SCHIFFERS, A., 15, Eilfschornsteinstrasse, Aachen, Germany. Aug. 31, 1932, No. 24325. [Class 42 (i).] In a machine for napping &c. fabrics wherein the fabric F passes round a number of sets of tension and guide rollers 12, 13 and is operated on at a number of points, the rollers are resiliently pressed against the napping drum 11 by springs, rubber blocks, &c. 36, and can be moved simultaneously towards and away from the drum by screw or other mechanism 37, the screws 37 being of a different pitch to the screws operating the rollers 13, or the crossheads 41 carrying the rollers 12 being so connected by links 43 to the crossheads 42 carrying the rollers 12 that the motion of the rollers 12 is greater than the motion of the rollers 13 so that the cloth tension does not vary as it moves into or out of contact with the drum 11. The fabric is next operated on by a brush 14, then on the reverse side by another brush 17 and finally by a felt covered roller 15 before passing back to the vat whence it may be passed again through the machine. The drums 11, 14, brush 17, roller 15, the clearing brush 16, some or all of the guide rollers 13 and the various feed rollers are driven by a single electric motor. The screws 37 are rotated by bevel wheels 30, 28 and a hand-wheel, and the guide wheels 20 near the drum 14, also the brush 17 and roller 15, are adjustable by means of handwheels &c.
