[Class 6 (i).] Seed drills of the kind described in Specification 333,645, [Class 6 (i), Cultivating implements &c.], are provided with means for temporarily opening the discharge apertures in the distributer chamber to the full extent to allow obstructions to pass, and with improved means for vibrating the rotary feed members in the chamber. The seeds from the hopper 1 pass through openings 3 into cylindrical distributer chambers 11 each supplying two coulter tubes 2. The quantity of seeds in the open-topped chambers 11 is maintained approximately uniform by regulation of the openings 3 by shutters 4 moved by means of worm gearing and racks 6 and pinions 7. Smooth or roughened conical feeders or distributers 20 in the chambers 11 are driven from a square shaft 15 by bevel gearing 16, 17 and squared spindles 18. Springs 24 normally push the spindles 18 upwards and hold serrated discs 19 at their upper ends in contact with stationary serrated discs 25, to cause the members 20 to be vibrated vertically. The discs 25 may be moved out of contact by means of screws 29 and they have pins 27 projecting into slots 28 to prevent rotation. The boxes 14 containing the gearing 16, 17 are provided with slidable front covers. In the chambers 11 are rings 30 carrying stepped baffle members 31 of the form shown developed in Fig. 4. The baffles fill the space between the cones and the chamber walls and are movable to shut off more or less of the discharge openings 12 according to the size of the seeds and the desired rate of sowing. For adjusting the baffles 31 the rings 30 have arms 33 projecting through slots and normally held against stops 36 on an adjustable bar 37 by springs 35, the arms 33 being provided with handles so that any one may be moved away from its stop by hand to release an obstruction. The bar 37 is adjustable by means of a screw-threaded hand-wheel 39 and carries a pointer 40 cooperating with a setting scale 41. According to the Provisional Specification the baffles need not be stepped.
