Abstract

Difficulties due to electrification encountered in the manufacture or manipulation of films of nonconducting materials such as cellulose carboxylates or ethers, and polyvinyl resins, are reduced by the application to or incorporation in such materials of alkylolamines and/or their derivatives, the o -amino-alkylamides of fatty acids, or the di- or poly-hydric alcohol derivatives in which some only of the hydroxy groups of the alcohols are esterified by higher fatty acids. Examples of such substances are mono-, di-, and tri-ethanolamine, propanolamine, dioxypropylamine, hydroxyethyl aniline, alkylolamine salts, soaps, esters, and acid amides (particularly the esters and amides of capric, lauric, myristic, oleic, and stearic acid), glycerol mono- and di-oleate, ethylene glycol mono-oleate, and diethylene glycol mono-oleate. The de-electrifying substance as such, or in the form of a solution or suspension, e.g. a solution in paraffin oil, may be added to the solution from which the film is produced, or to the precipitating bath, or it may be sprayed on to the film.ALSO:Difficulties due to electrification encountered in the manufacture or manipulation of films of nonconducting materials such as cellulose carboxylates or ethers, and polyvinyl resins, are reduced by the application to or incorporation in such materials of alkylolamines and/or their derivatives, the o -amino-alkylamides of fatty acids, or the di- or polyhydric alcohol derivatives in which some only of the hydroxy groups of the alcohols are esterified by higher fatty acids.
