Abstract

Powders for stopping h morrhage are produced by precipitating polyvinyl compounds from solutions which also contain a haemostatic agent, such as ferric chloride. Plasters or bandages are made by applying these powders to suitable material, or by impregnating the material with a solution containing the powders and haemostat. Or bandages may be prepared by applying the polyvinyl compound to the base material as a powder or as an adhesive. As polyvinyl compounds are mentioned alcohols, their partial esters, acetals, ethers and ester-acetals which are soluble or capable of swelling in water. In an example, polyvinyl alcohol and ferric chloride are precipitated from ethyl alcohol. Specification 448,742 is referred to.
