Abstract
387,656. Saddle supports. PRAKHNITZKY, N., 75, Rue de Villiers, Neuillysur-Seine, France. May 4, 1931, No. 13159. Convention date, May 19, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 136 (iii).] In order to enable a cyclist to put both feet on the ground during temporary stoppages, the. saddle pin is slidably mounted in the frame so that when released from a catch it descends under the weight of the rider, the return movement being effected by a spring when the weight is removed. In one form, the saddle pin 1, which slides in the frame tube 4 and is returned to its upper position by a compression spring 10, is held in its upper position by a catch 5, which is pivoted at 6 and passes through slots in the tube 4 and pin 1. The catch 5 is released by means of a Bowden transmission 7 against the action of a compression spring 9. In modifications, a separate catch is used to prevent the pin 1 from rising above the normal riding position, and the catch releasable from the handle-bar &c. is of sliding form, or consists of a pivoted catch mounted inside the pin 1 and tube 4. In a further construction, the springs 10, 9 are replaced by a single interior tension spring, which is connected at its lower end to the lower end of the pin 1 and at its upper end to the arm 5<1> of the catch 5. In another form, the pin 1 and compression spring 10 are mounted in an auxiliary tube adapted to be inserted into the frame tube 4 of an existing cycle, and the catch, which is mounted in the interior of the device holds the pin 1 in both its raised and lowered positions. In a further modification, a sliding catch is adapted to engage one of a number of recesses in the pin 1, so that the latter can be adjusted to various positions.
