Abstract

387,200. Periodic shoe-brakes. SHARPE, J. W., 7109, Lindell Boulevard,. St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. May 18, 1932, No. 14156. [Class 103 (i).] An automatic brake for retardrotary shafts at predetermined points in their rotation, p a r - tioularly the crank shafts of stamping and punching presses and the like on the idle strokes of these machines, comprises a brake disc 2 keyed to the rotary shaft 1 and surrounded by fixed brake shoes 4, 5 connected by bolts 6, 7, the bolt 7 having an apertured enlargement 18 at one end engaged by an eccentric 20 or cam which is mounted on the shoe 5 and is rotated to move the bolt longitudinally to apply or release the brake by means of a cam 28 on the brake disc acting on a radially-adjustable roller 25 carried by an arm 24. The cam 28 is adjustably clamped to the hub of the brake disc 2 by means of a collar 31 and bolts 32. To prevent rotation of the shoes, the shoe 5 has a slotted part 34 for engaging a fixed bolt.
