Abstract
386,441. Combined stop-motions and sliver guides for gill-boxes or drawing- frames. SCOTT, W. J., 78, Collins Street, Woonsocket, Rhode Island, U.S.A. Jan. 15, 1932, No. 1232. Convention date, June 13, 1931. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (ii).] A combined stop-motion and sliver guide for a gill-box or drawing-frame comprises a vertical plate 21, Figs. 1 and 2, having a number of openings or guides 27 arranged in parallel rows, the rows being in echelon formation to guide the slivers 11, 12, 13 side by side, and feeler contact members 29 which are normallv supported by the slivers are provided adjacent the openings 27 and on breakage or slackening of the sliver fall to make contact with a bar 32 completing an electric circuit and stopping the machine. Bars 47, 48 are provided to raise the slivers for entry into the openings. The upper and right-hand contact members 29, Fig. 2, may be turned up into the inoperative position shown dotted. In a modification having more closley spaced guide openings 42, Figs. 5 and 6, the feelers 43 are provided with fingers 44 adapted to make contact with horizontal contact-bars 45. The feelers 43 are provided with a curved edge 46 engaging the sliver. The feelers 29, 43 are arranged in the circuit of a solenoid 33, Fig. 4, and on completion of the circuit the solenoid operates to release a latch 34 whereupon the belt is moved to the loose pulley 41 by a spring 37.
