Abstract
In the process of insulating metal plates, wires &c. by coating with varnish and stoving at about 300 DEG C., the metal is first treated to produce a coating which is more readily wetted by fatty oils than is the pure metal. The coating may be an oxide produced by heating the metal to be varnished or by oxidation in an aqueous solution; or a sulphide coating; or an oxide or sulphide of a different metal, e.g. an iron surface may be coated with copper oxide.ALSO:Metal plates, wires, &c. are coated with a compound of the same or of another metal before applying an insulating lacquer. The coating may be an oxide produced by heating the metal or by oxidation in an aqueous solution; or a sulphide coating; or an oxide or sulphide of a different metal, e.g. an iron surface may be coated with copper oxide.
