Abstract

Rubber articles vulcanized with sulphur chloride are treated with an agent (e.g. a sulphide, polysulphide, thiosulphate) which replaces the chlorine in the rubber by sulphur, whereby the ageing quality is improved. In an example, ammonium sulphide solution is saturated with sulphur and diluted with nine volumes of alcohol and one volume of benzene, and coldvulcanized sheet rubber is immersed in the mixture for 1 hour.
