[Class 100 (iii).] Moulds ; ejecting type-bars.-Means are provided for securing the efficient guiding of large slugs of recessed form during their ejection. As the core members Bl, Figs. 1 and 3, that form the recesses in the slugs, terminate short of the front face of the mould, to allow the formation of the character-bearing portion S<2>, the slug is no longer guided by the core members during the last part of the ejection stroke, and the consequent tendency of the slug to tilt, as shown in Fig. 1, may result in injury to the slug or to the trimming-knives. Certain of the core members are therefore extended at their lower ends to the front face of the mould by providing them with guiding-shoes C, Figs. 2 and 3, so that the slug is guided by the core members until fully ejected. In order to avoid the weakening effect of the recesses so formed in the slug, the shoes C are bifurcated or slotted, so that ribs are formed in the region of the recesses.
