Abstract

384,789. Cylinders for paper-machines &c. MAYER, C. W., 546, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, U.S.A. Dec. 3, 1931, No. 33556. [Class 96.] A cylinder for paper-coating and other machines comprises a rotary shell 5, Figs. 1 and 3, having at its ends an inlet 8, an outlet 9, and a drum 11 spaced from the shell and combining therewith to form an annular passage of decreasing area of cross-section from the inlet towards the outlet, thus causing the speed of heating or cooling media to increase along the drum to maintain the whole cylindrical outer surface at the same temperature. The drum 11 which is frusto-conical and closed at both ends is secured at the smaller end by bars 12 welded to the surface of the shell 5. Curved expeller blades 13 welded to the larger end of the drum 11 and to the shell 5, and terminating in a passage 14 at the outlet 9 remove water of condensation if any, and aid circulation. Corrugations 10 approximately double the surface exposed to the circulating fluid.
