Abstract

384,732. Spring wheels. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., 32, Osnaburgh Street, London, and FELLOWES, F., Fort Dunlop, Birmingham. July 2, 1932, No. 27523/31. [Class 144 (i).] A railway wheel consists of a central web 1, the periphery of which is channelled to receive an inflatable annulus 4 maintained in position by means of a tread 13, preferably inclined to the horizontal, of yielding material, such as rubber, which is detachably secured by flanges 5, 6, of unequal depth fastened to the web 1. The rail surface 11 of the tread may be of harder material than the inner portion 13, and may consist of a metallic ring which is bonded to the rubber. The tread 13 is provided with inextensible marginal bead portions 9 clamped between the detachable flanges 5, 6, and the web 1.
