Abstract

384,625. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Singer Manufacturing Co. ; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Jan. 12, 1932, No. 25331. [Class 112.] Chain-stitching.-The wide gauge multiple looper mechanism of Specifications 7903/14 and 216,778, [both in Class 112, Sewing &c.], are modified so that the looper has an adjustable connection with the looper-carrier to permit bodily shift of the looper in a direction normal to the needle when the looper at the end of its stroke is ready to begin its advance to seize a needle-loop. Co-operating with each needle 7 is a looper 8 the blade of which is disposed transversely of the line of feed. The loopseizing and shedding movements of the looper are across the line of feed. The needle-avoiding movements are in the line of feed. The shanks 81 of the loopers are mounted in clamps 9 at the upper ends of the twin looper-carrier levers 10. These have bearing spindles 11 in apertures in the bearing block 13. The looper levers are pivotally connected together at their lower ends by a yoke 14 which has a central bearing for the pin 15. The head 16 of this is split and is clamped to the sleeve 17 of a pin 18 received in a guide aperture of the block 13. The main shaft 6 is formed with the usual crank 19 to work the sleeve 17 to rock the looper carriers. The axis a-a of the pin 21 intersects the axis b-b of the inclined crank 19 at a point 22 which is spaced from the point of intersection 23 of the axis b-b and the axis c-c of the main shaft 6, Fig. 14. This spacing imparts side throw to the pin 21 and gives the loopers their needle-avoiding movement. The loopers are adjusted relative to the needles by moving them in their clamps 9 and rocking them on the shanks 8<1>. They are brought to accessible position for adjustment by turning the nut 29 to cause the block 13 to turn about the main shaft.
