[Class 112.] Chain-stitching.-The wide multiple looper mechanisms of Specifications 7903/14 and 216,778, [both in Class 112, Sewing &c.], are modified for high speed operation and adjustability from working position to a readily accessible position for correct setting relative to the needle and threading. In the form illustrated, the machine has the usual bed 1, cloth-plate 2, throatplate 3, feed-dog 4, needle-bar 5, and main shaft 6. The needle-bar 5 carries two widely spaced needles 7. Co-operating with each needle is a thread-carrying looper 8 the blade of which is transverse to the line of feed. Their loop-seizing and loop-shedding movements are across the line of feed and their needle-avoiding movements are in the line of feed. The loopers are carried on shanks 81 mounted in clamps 9 at the upper ends of twin looper-carrier levers 10 having bearing spindles 11 journalled in spaced parallel relation in the horizontal bearing apertures of a detachable block 13. The levers 10 are pivoted together by a yoke 14 having a central bearing aperture for the pin 15, the head 16 of which is split and clamped to a sleeve 17 of the guide pin 18 in the block 13. The shaft 6 has the usual inclined crank 19 embraced by the long sleevehead 20 of the vibratory drive pin 21 which is normal to the axis of the sleeve head and works in the sleeve 17 for imparting rocking movements to the looper levers 10. The bearing block 13 is provided with a felt-packed cavity for oil reception for lubrication.
