Abstract

384,391. Sharpening gramophone needles &c. PEDLEY, A., Rondo Works, Elysium Street, Fulham, London. Oct. 6, 1931, Nos. 27757 and 34623. [Class 60.] A device for sharpening the points of gramophone needles &c. consists of a disc 1 having an abrading surface 2, for example of emery paper, and having a central sleeve-bearing 3 carrying a spindle 4. The spindle is secured to a member 12, to which also is secured a handle 5, and the member 12 has therein a hole 6 and a slot 7 to receive a needle-carrier 8 having a screw 10 therein to clamp a needle 9 and carrying a wheel 8a, which contacts with the surface 2. In operation, the spindle 4 and the disc 1 are given relative rotation, whereby the needle is rotated, and at the same time moves around the surface 2. In a modification, Fig. 4, for sharpening wooden or fibre needles of triangular cross section, the needle 11 is secured in a carrier 12 by a screw 11a, the carrier projecting laterally from a handle 13 having a spindle portion mounted eccentrically in a bush 18 rotatable in a bearing sleeve 14 projecting eccentrically from a disc 15, which carries an abrading ring 16.
