Abstract
Viscous compositions are obtained by mixing together an asphalt emulsion and a dispersion of vulcanized or unvulcanized rubber, guttapercha, or balata, the minimum degree of concentration of each constituent being 40 per cent. Preferably the rubber dispersion has a concentration of 60-70 per cent and the asphalt emulsion contains 65 per cent of asphalt. If weaker emulsions of asphalt are used it is desirable to add viscosity-increasing ingredients such as bentonite, casein, leico gum, and water-glass. Protective colloids, vulcanizing agents, &c. may be added to the rubber dispersion. The compositions may contain 5-40 per cent of rubber calculated on the asphalt content.
