Abstract

383,632. Ship's windows ; frames ; sills. KAWNEER CO., 1105, South Front Street, Niles, Michigan, U.S.A. May 15, 1931, No. 14480. Convention date, July 14, 1930. [Class 20 (iii).] A window construction, particularly for ships, comprises a verticallyslidable sash 3, Fig. 2, the frame of which is provided with laterally extending doubled-over portions constituting ribs 20 which slidingly engage with grooves 18, seen in sectional plan in Fig. 3, in the window frame. When lowered, the sash is received within a well 17a and when raised the top rail 23 thereof engages with a channel 21 of a head jamb 6. The well 17a, head jamb 6, side stiles 7, and a sill 5, constitute the window frame which is connected as shown to metal trims 10, 11, secured to the hull 1 of the ship. The upper and side members of the sash are of similar construction and are reinforced internally by a bar 25. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a sash construction in which the top rail 23 is removable. As shown in Fig. 5 (Cancelled), a removable bolt 33, passing through the top rail and into the reinforcing bar 25 of the side rail, is used to secure the top rail in position. Each rail of the sash frame is lined with felt 26, or the like to provide a seating for the glass, and the lower rail is provided with a wedge-shaped rubber strip 27 which abuts against the sill 5 when the window is closed. Latches 30, each having a plunger which engages with a number of holes in the window frame, are provided to hold the sash in any desired position. A member 32 at the bottom of the well drains away any water which enters therein. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
