Abstract
383,287. Control of apparatus by light. CAMPLING, G., Park Hill, Bickley, Kent, and READ, H. L., Windermere, Hillside Walk, Brentwood, Essex. Feb. 5, 1931, No. 3612. [Class 40 (v).] A selenium bridge or photo-electric cell D<1> is disposed in a casing in such a manner that light from a source C<1> can reach it only by reflection, as by a hand placed in a certain position. Relays operate electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or clockwork apparatus for the control of signs or artificial lighting, or the projection of pictures, advertisements &c. with or without audible effects. A shield B<1> prevents extraneous light reaching the cell D<1>, and a display panel is located in front of the light C<1>. A delayed action circuit for maintaining the operation for a predetermined period of time is shown in Fig. 2. When the relay F<2> is in the operated position the contacts 5, 6 are closed, so that a condenser A<2> is given a negative charge from the contact B<2> of a potentiometer C<2>. As soon as the relay closes contacts 4, 5 and opens 5, 6 the condenser A<2> is connected to the grid of a thermionic valve and keeps the grid potential negative until its charge has leaked away through the resistance D<2>. The time taken for this depends on the amount of the charge in the condenser A<2>, this being controlled by the position of contact B2.
