Abstract

392,928. Valve circuits. LYONS & CO., Ltd., J., Cadby Hall, Kensington, DOUGLASS, P. G., 12, Auriol Mansions, West Kensington, and PASSMORE, C. R., Ardneil, Oakleigh Park, Whetstone, all in London. Nov. 23, 1931, No. 32411. [Class 40 (v).] A time-lag device, which mav be used for keeping a door open for a predetermined period after a photo-electric cell has been shadowed by a passing person, is of the kind in which, as described in Specification 353,776, the duration of the effect is determined by the leaking away of a charge from a condenser. According to the invention the condenser is conductively in circuit with the controlling valve. The door-opening mechanism is controlled by relay 1, which remains de-energized so long as photo-electric cell 7 is illuminated by lamp 10, since the unidirectional current via A, 4, 6, 7, b puts a negative charge on grid 5g, and grid 3g also becomes sufficiently negative to de-energize magnet 1. When the cell 7 is shadowed, however, it becomes non-conducting, the small condenser 8 discharges, valve 5 passes current, and condenser 4 acquires a charge which positivizes grid 3g and causes energization of the door-opening relay 1. When the cell 7 is re-illuminated, the charge on the large condenser 4 slowly leaks away through the cell and the resistance 6. After an interval determined by the constants of the circuit, relay 1 again releases and the door closes.
