Abstract
382,781. Ventilating vehicles. TILT, A., of Avon Body Works, Wharf Street, Warwick, and LEWIN, W. J., Sunnydale, Scholes, Leeds. Nov. 27, 1931, No. 32908. [Class 137.] Ventilating means for a closed vehicle comprise a relatively narrow opening in the front part of the roof but away from the curved edge thereof and a pivoted flap adapted in one position to close the opening and in another to open it by projecting above and in front of it. Where the vehicle is provided with a sliding roof or hatch, the opening is preferably formed by having the hatch 3 slightly open and for this purpose two securing positions for tde hatch are provided by means of a detent on the underside of the hatch engaging with either of two notches 9, 10 in a member 7. The flap 4 is pivoted to the cant rail 6 and on the opening of the hatch either fully or partially, is swung upwardly by means of a spring-pressed plunger 13 engaging the side 15. In its partially opened position, the front edge of the hatch overhangs a transverse gutter 11. Means are provided for swinging the flap downwardly on the closing of the hatch. As shown in Fig. 2, this is effected by a finger 14 projecting from the front of the hatch and engaging the side 15 of the flap. In a modification, Fig. 3, pegs 17 projecting from the sides of the hatch engage cams 16 on the sides.of the flap.
