Abstract

382,764. Ash-trays. MOSS, T. R., Dyersburg, Tennessee, U.S.A. Nov. 13, 1931, No. 31484. [Class 130.] An ash-tray fitted within an opening in a table top, chair arm, or other furniture so that it may be placed flush when not in use, or moved or drawn out into position for use, is held in position by the engagement of depressions in the ash-tray with spring-pressed plungers extending from a ring fitted into the opening. The Figure shows the ash-tray 11, with bowl portion 15, inverted within the ring member 6 so that the bottom of the tray is flush with the table &c. When required for use, the tray is lifted out of the opening by means of a finger-piece 16, and placed the other way up, with the flange 14 in the ring member 6 and the bowl extending upwards from the table &c. The tray is held in the inverted position by spring plungers 10, and is fitted with rests 17 for cigarettes &c. In a modification, the tray is pivoted within the ring, and is inverted about its pivots. In a further form, the ring 6 is formed with a depending casing which receives the ash-tray, the latter being held depressed within the casing when out of use, by a detachable lid. A spring between the bottom of the casing and the ashtray presses the latter upwards when the lid is removed. The ash-tray may be completely removed from the casing by means of a bayonetslotconnection.
