Abstract

382,063. Grinding rollers. KETTLEIN, F., 9, Parchimer Allee, Britz, Germany. Oct. 23, 1931, No. 29508. [Class 60.] Disc, wheel and roller apparatus.-In an apparatus for grinding and polishing cylinders, particularly coppered intaglio cylinders the work piece 1 is ground by a tool mounted on a vertical axis in a carrier 2 carried by an arm 18 which is reciprocated by a cam 7 and bellcrank lever 5, 4, to move the tool transversely over the work during operation. The grinding head is rotated from a pinion 9 concentric with the pivot of the bell-crank lever, this pinion being geared to the head by spur gearing 10, bevel gears 11, 14 and spur gearing 16. The weight of the grinding head and its associated parts may be counterbalanced by a weight 28, movable along rails 27. In order to lift the grinding head to permit inspection of the work an arm 24 carries a roller 23 and is connected to a wheel 20 operated by worm gearing from a handle 22. When the arm 24 is operated the roller 23 engages beneath the arm 18 and lifts the grinding head clear of the work, Fig. 3. The device is operated through reduction gearing from a motor 25.
