[Classes 39 (iii) and 126.] A radiant heater comprises at least one substantially semi-parabolic reflector 4 and a heating element 6 mounted at right-angles to the axis and approximately at the focus of the reflector and preferably carried by a non- reflecting plate 2a extending in the axial plane of the reflector. The plate 2a is disposed horizontally to serve as a screen to prevent currents of cold air from flowing upwards about the heating element. The heater may comprise an electrical heating element comprising a coiled resistance wire disposed around a body of refractory material and only the face of the refractory body turned to the reflector may be covered with wire. The heater may also be a burner with a vertically adjustable wire mantle. The position of the heating element may be adjusted. Reflecting heaters of this kind may be arranged around an oven chamber as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The heaters are hinged or detachably secured to the oven structure to facilitate inspection and renewal.
