[Class 19.] A device, as shown in the Figure, for sweeping and polishing floors comprises a pair of brushes a, c, or similar devices so arranged on one handle b that one brush a precedes the other c in working, the following brush c being resilently m o u n t e d. The sweeping brush a is detachably held by fly bolts a<1> to a carrier a<11> to which a handle b is pivotally or otherwise attached. The polishing brush c is attached by screws to a carrier c<11> connected to a support d attached by a sliding fitting dll on the handle. The brushes are interconnected by hinged crossed strips i, i<1>. The fitting d<11> is pressed by a spring g between rings ell, e<1> adjustable by means of pins h. In operation, the spring g has the effect of exerting such a pressure on the brush or pad c that only ordinary pressure is required for sweeping with the brush a.
