Abstract
381,683. Hinges. WILKES & SONS, Ltd., S. and WILKES, A. J., Excelsior Works, Bloxwich, Staffordshire. Sept. 2, 1931, No. 24656. [Class 65 (ii).] In a hinge having two attachment plates, each with a hinge lug, the lug on one plate has a part spherical seat with which engages a part spherical hollow bearing member carried by the other hinge lug, and a bolt or pin, carried by the hinge lug having the seating and extending into the hollow of the other lug, engages the hollow bearing member in a movable or resilient manner to permit relative rocking movement between the lugs to a limited extent. The hinge plate 2 has a lug 4 in which is fixed a bolt 8, and a lug 3 on the other hinge plate carries a hollow bearing member 6 which engages a spherical seat on the lug 4, the member 6 having clearance about the bolt 8. The bolt 8 carries a washer 12 and a spring inside the bearing member 6, keeping the parts 6, 4 in engagement but permitting limited relative tilting. In a modification, the washer and spring are omitted and the head 9 of the bolt 8 engages a shoulder inside the bearing member 6, this shoulder preferably being spherical and concentric with the outer surface of the member 6.
