Abstract

In mouldable compositions containing carbon, the carbon is introduced in the form in which it is obtained by the thermal decomposition of a graphitic oxide. Suitable binding agents are resins, cellulose esters, bitumen, and pitch. The carbon may also be used as a filler in rubber compositions, cements, packing compositions, &c. Examples of articles which may be moulded from the compositions are gramophone records, door handles, buttons, telephone mouthpieces, and ornamental objects. The masses may also be used, owing to their good electrical conductivity, for electrochemical and electrotechnical purposes.
