Abstract

381,397. Haspfastenings. FRANZEN, K. A., 70, Altenhofer, Solingen Wald, Germany. Dec. 11, 1931, No. 34440. [Class 44.] A fastening for portfolios &c. with flexible covers comprises a lock 2 projecting from the edge of the cover 1 to which it is rigidly attached by a plate 3, the flexibility of the cover allowing it to be moved into operative engagement with a catch member secured to the body 10 of the portfolio &c. As shown, this member comprises a stud in the form of a hollow rivet in two parts pressed together and with flanges 12, 14 between which the body 10 is clamped, a washer 15 being interposed. The stud has a head 8 which enters a cylindrical guide 17 formed in one with the back-plate of the lock casing, and is retained by a catch comprising a plate 5 with an extension 6 extending through an aperture in the casing wall and serving as a pivot on which the plate is moved into locking engagement by a spring 7. The plate has an aperture surrounding the stud and formed with a projection 19 which passes through a slot in the guide 17 into engagement with the stud. The plate has a nose 4 projecting from the casing and pressed inwards, when the lock case is grasped, to release the catch. The nose 4 may project laterally as shown, or from the lower end of the lock casing. A slidable spring bolt 21 housed in a slot in plate 5 and operable bv a key, may be moved into engagement with the stud on the side remote from the projection 19, to lock plate 5 against release movement.
