Abstract
Azo dyes, complex copper compounds of.--Copper complex compounds of azo dyestuffs containing groups capable of forming complex compounds are made by bringing the solid azo dyestuffs into intimate contact with finely divided metallic copper or oxides or hydroxides of copper or a copper salt of a weak acid or a complex compound of copper in which the cation in co-ordination with the metal contains a basic component or with a copper salt of a strong inorganic or organic acid with the addition of a solid acid-binding agent. In examples: (1) the dyestuffs anthranilic acid --> 3-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid and 5-sulpho-2-aminobenzoic acid --> 3-aminophenol are ground respectively with dry crystallized tetrammine cupric sulphate for 24 hours, (2) the dyestuff 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid --> 3-aminophenol is ground with tetrammine cupric sulphate, (3) the disazo dyestuff 2-aminophenol - 4 - sulphonic acid \sQ 5 : 5<1>-dioxy-2 : 2<1>-dinaphthylamine-7 : 7<1>-disulphonic acid is treated as in (1), (4) the dyestuff 5-sulpho-2-aminobenzoic acid --> 3-aminophenol is ground with copper acetate or (5) with cuprous oxide or (6) with cupric chloride urea, (7) the dyestuff 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid --> resorcinol \sM 1-naphthylamine-4-sulphonic acid is ground with tetrammine cupric sulphate, (8) the dyestuff 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid --> 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone or anthranilic acid --> 2<1>-sulpho - 1 - phenyl - 3-methyl-5-pyrazolone is treated as in (1), (9) the dyestuff 5-sulpho-2-aminobenzoic acid --> 3-aminophenol is ground with copper sulphate and sodium or magnesium carbonate or sodium acetate, (10) the disazo dyestuff 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid \sQ J acid and (11) the azo dyestuff 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid --> 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone are treated as in (9), (12) the dyestuff 5-sulpho-2-aminobenzoic acid --> 3-aminophenol is ground with copper powder.
