Abstract

380,853. Joint - making packing. WILLS, P., 39, Northfield, Bridgwater, Somerset, and WILLS, A. F., Grasmere, Sloddens Road, Burnham-on-Sea. June 29, 1931, No. 18682. [Class 122 (iii).] A metal gasket comprises a sealed annular metal chamber 13 initially filled with gas at a pressure greater than atmospheric. It may be in the form of two plates 114, 14, secured together by welding &c. or a metal tube may be bent into a circle and its ends welded together. The chamber may be loaded by sealing the gasket in an atmosphere under pressure or by sealing within the gasket chemicals which generate a gas upon reaction. A reinforcing ring may be sealed in the chamber to limit compression thereof.
